Launch of Graduate Placement Scheme for Pendle Employers

This month sees the launch of the Graduate Placement Scheme, which provides Pendle employers the opportunity to recruit local university graduates to work within their business at a subsidised cost.
The scheme, which is funded by Pendle Borough Council and facilitated by Pennine Lancashire Enterprise Trust, allows local businesses to employ a graduate, from a variety of degree backgrounds, to undertake a specific project in the business or fill / replace a role within the organisation for a 6-12 month period.

There's an unmistakable energy surrounding Burnley at the moment. Capitalising on the promotion of the local football team, local businesses are keen to follow suit and emulate their success in the Lancashire town. In recognition of this, Burnley Borough Council, Burnley Enterprise (trading as Pennine Lancashire Enterprise Trust), Business in the Community and the University of Central Lancashire have joined forces to create a super league for local business, 'The Burnley Enterprise Development Programme' (BEDP).
Twenty five businesses have been handpicked for BEDP on the basis of their initial impact and success in the local community, and their potential to become leading contributors to the region's economy. Their selection signals a genuine shift in business attitudes and a commitment to ensuring that Burnley entrepreneurs emerge successfully from the challenges of recession.

Newcastle University graduate Michael Bryan is the latest student to embark on the UK's leading, project-based work placement, Shell Step. Following the achievement of a first class Business Management degree, Michael was selected to undertake a key project this summer with Calico in Burnley.
Pennine Lancashire Enterprise Trust have been successfully placing students on the Shell Step programme for over 20 years, tailoring each student's raw skill set with local business' specific project needs. As a result, the participating businesses can achieve a fresh and objective perspective on live projects like research and development, IT updates, website development and re-branding.

Joining 'Just Gorgeous' wedding dress boutique and wedding photographer 'Graham Barnes' in the picturesque town, Sarah displayed some of her finest creations at the launch and is hoping to secure invites to many upcoming local celebrations. She explained, 'The village already has some wonderful wedding suppliers, so I hope that by opening here, Crawshawbooth will become a great destination for all wedding parties to visit!'

The Sustainable Employment Project is spearheaded by Pennine Lancashire Enterprise Trust from its Burnley office, and is designed to offer help and advice through a business mentoring programme aimed at small and medium sized businesses in the town. The thrust of the programme is to help businesses develop and grow and ultimately create employment opportunities for Burnley.
